RSSI measures the strength of a signal, and is typically displayed as a decibel milliwatts number (dBm), with negative numbers being more powerful.

Devices communicate on different frequencies to avoid interference with each other. The 2.4 GHz band has fewer channels than the 5 GHz, which makes it more susceptible to this type of interference.

As a result, the 2.4 GHz band can be significantly congested with devices that operate on this frequency. The 2.4 GHz network also tends to be less stable than the 5 GHz network because the signal can more easily drop out or get disrupted. This can cause your web browser or other apps to crash, or it may slow your download speed. Ultimately, the 2.4 GHz network is best suited for simple tasks such as email and social media.
If you want to determine which band your Wi-Fi is using, open your networks panel from the taskbar or click the WiFi icon on your desktop, then right-click and select “Properties”. Look for the "Network Band" setting. It should say 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
There are plenty of reasons you might have a weak WiFi signal, including distance, obstructions or interference from other devices in your home. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help improve your network performance, such as moving or shielding the access point/router or installing a signal repeater or extender.
If you're experiencing low Wi-Fi speeds or connectivity issues, we recommend trying a 2.4ghz network. This lower-frequency option can still provide fast Internet to the devices in your home, even if you have a lot of other electronics on the same band, such as cordless phones, baby monitors or garage door openers. However, for high-bandwidth applications such as online gaming and video streaming, it's best to move to a 5Ghz network to prevent interference from other wireless devices.
